Sunday Services

Midweek Services

Daily Prayer

Sunday Services

8am Holy communion from the Book of Common Prayer

A quiet said service (although often we do sing a hymn) is usually attended by about 30 people and uses the traditional words of the Book of Common Prayer. The service lasts about half an hour.

10am Parish Eucharist (Common Worship)

The principle eucharist attended by 140 — 160 people is the focal point of parish life. On one Sunday a month the eucharist includes baptisms and on another Sunday, the opportunity for healing prayers. Junior Church takes place during term time. The service is followed by refreshments in the Bulson Hall.

6pm Evening Prayer

A quiet and reflective service using a mixture of ancient and modern which takes place in the choir and attended by approximately 20 people.

Midweek Services

Eucharist - Thursdays at 11.30am

On the 1st and 3rd Thursday of the month we use the modern Common Worship service and on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of the month, the old words from the Book of Common Prayer.
The Thursday Eucharist usually lasts about 30 minutes and is a quiet and reflective opportunity for prayer in the middle of the week.

Daily Prayer at St Faith’s

Silent Prayer Mon - Sat 7.30am

Morning Prayer Mon - Sat 8am
Evening Prayer Mon 5pm
Evening Prayer Tue - Thur 7pm
Evening Prayer Friday 6pm

Why Daily Prayer?

From the earliest days Christians have met daily to pray.  Today, this means two readings from the bible, a psalm or two and the reading of familiar biblical passages such as the Benedictus and Magnificat.  We remember the saints and  bring our own concerns and the concerns of the world to God in prayer.  It is an opportunity to see beyond ourselves, to put our day, whether it is starting or ending, into a wider perspective.

Who comes?

Over the course of a month more than thirty different people come although on the average, the number at each service (or ‘office’ as we call it) is four or five.  Some people come every day, some once a week on the same day, others come whenever they can.  Whoever and whenever - anyone is always welcome.  Morning and Evening Prayer each last about twenty minutes.

Silent Prayer in the Morning

Pray as you can and do not try to pray as you cant. Take yourself as you find yourself: start from that.

Thomas Merton from ‘Entering the Silence’

Before Morning Prayer there is the opportunity for silent prayer.  Some people come just for the silence.  It is a wonderful start to the day whether you use this time for meditation, contemplative prayer, spiritual reading or just time to be still.  For those who do not like formal prayers - it’s a good thing just to come for the silence.  Sit anywhere you like in the church and enjoy the peace.

How?

Let there always be quiet dark churches in which people can take refuge... Houses of God filled with his silent presence.  There, even when they do not know how to pray, at least they can be still and breathe easily.

Thomas Merton from ‘New Seeds of Contemplation

Where?

Daily Prayers are said in the Lady Chapel - the small chapel on the south side of the church.  Come in through the south porch.
