Baptism at St Faith’s

To make baptism arrangements please come to Vestry Hour, any Thursday Evening in church between 6 - 7pm

St Faith’s Baptism Policy

Every year we conduct about 30 baptisms.  If you live in the parish, or regularly worship here, then it is normally possible to arrange for the baptism to be conducted at St Faith’s.  Baptisms are conducted once a month in the 10am Parish Eucharist and occasionally on Sundays at midday.

Baptisms are arranged at Vestry Hour on Thursday evenings between 6 - 7pm in church.   If it is not possible for you to come to Vestry Hour please email the vicar.  You may wish to complete the baptism application form and email it to us in advance of a meeting.

We would like you to come to church at least three times before the baptism Sunday and as often as you can afterwards.  This will enable you to be familiar with our Sunday routine and it means that we can  support you.  As part of our preparation for the baptism we pray daily for those who are being baptized.  Although we do not insist that parents and godparents are themselves baptized, we do prefer it; if it is good enough for your child then it should be good enough for you. Adults are normally confirmed.  If you are interested in adult baptism or being confirmed, please contact the Vicar.

What does Baptism mean?

Baptism is the sacrament by which we become members of the Christian church.  When children are baptised it is usual for Godparents to make promises on their behalf.  In addition to the promises that are made, there are three important symbols:  The sign of  the cross made on the candidate’s forehead.  The washing with water at the font.  The giving of the lighted candle.

Practicalities

You can have as many Godparents as you like. Their gender doesn’t matter, but do  choose the best people for the job!  We will give you a certificate of baptism and reserve seats for your baptism party.   Please arrive at church for 9.45am.  If someone is videoing the service we just ask that they be discreet.  The occasional photograph is all right but we prefer it if photographs are taken after the service has finished.  There is often more than one baptism in the same service.  After the service there are refreshments in the hall - everyone is welcome.

Fees/Deposit

There is no deposit required  but we would ask you to become a Friend of St Faith’s for at least one year.  The minimum payment for this is £12 and we would hope that you will choose to renew your membership as a consequence of a happy baptism day and as a means of keeping in touch with this special place.

Friends of St Faith’s exists primarily for those who cannot for any reason come to church but who would like to support our work and stay in touch with what we are doing.

Baptism Receptions

If you would like to consider booking the Parish Centre for your wedding reception please contact Andrew Munro in the Parish Office.
